When you are on a TELUS pay monthly rate plan, your phone automatically works in hundreds of cities in the United States (US). Most of the services you subscribe to will work while you’re in the US.

TELUS offers data roaming (3G, EVDO, and 1X) in over 230 US cities.

Rates

Just like at home, airtime and long distance are billed in Canadian dollars, so you never have to worry about exchange rates.

Airtime is 95 cents per minute for local calls. Long distance is an additional 50 cents per minute.

Please note: it can take up to 90 days for US roaming calls to appear on your invoice.

Roaming minutes, including accessing your voicemail, are independent of your rate plan and are not applied towards your included or evening/weekend minutes. Voicemail notification is not available in all US service areas.

Free local calling on your birthday is only available in Canada.

The latest preferred roaming list (PRL) software

As we expand our networks and coverage areas, we update the software for your phone which you should install. Before leaving your local area, make sure you update your Preferred Roaming list number.

Upgrading your PRL software

1. Confirm that you are in a digital coverage area. If you are in a digital coverage area, a "D" or nothing appears on your phone's display.
2. Using your mobile phone, dial *22803 or *ACT03 and press Send.
3. When prompted, select your language preference.
4. After the next prompt, press 2 to upgrade your phone's PRL software. The upgrade should take less than a minute and ends with a confirmation message.
5. If you receive an error message, call TELUS at 1-877-253-2763 or dial *611 on your mobile phone.

A pay monthly rate plan

You need to be on a pay monthly plan, not on a prepaid plan. If you are on a prepaid plan, you can switch to a pay monthly plan.

Prepaid is not available in the US.
