Unsolicited calls can occur on mobile phones, just as they do on your landline. While there isn't much you can do to stop these calls beyond requesting you not be contacted again, here are some tips to protect yourself:
Register your home, mobile, VoIP, or fax telephone numbers online at www.LNNTE-DNCL.gc.ca or by phone or fax:
If you are registering by phone or by fax you must call from the telephone number you are registering.
Complaints about the National DNCL Rules or Telemarketing Rules can be submitted online at www.LNNTE-DNCL.gc.ca or by phone at 1 866-580-DNCL (3625).
With TELUS, you can be assured your mobile phone number(s) will never be disclosed without your permission.
Your TELUS mobile phone number(s) can be included in directories only at your request. Please see Section 8 of our service terms for details.
If you suspect that you have been targeted in a fraudulent telemarketing scheme, contact the local police. The following list outlines some of the most common frauds.
Prize offers: To receive your "free" prize, you usually have to attend a sales presentation, buy something, pay a fee, or give a credit card number. Prizes are often worthless or overpriced.
At the end of message, you might have the option to press a number to be removed from the calling list. Don't press that number, as it notifies the caller that they have connected with you.
Travel packages:"Free" or "low cost" vacations can have hidden costs, or they might just be a scam.
Investments: You can be solicited with many "investment opportunities" with the promise of high returns. It's up to you to research every opportunity thoroughly.
